TW200 restoration project

Hi, I'm new to the forum and also new to TW 200s. I'm from Sydney Australia and these bikes over here get awesome custom jobs from a place called Deus ex machina. I decided to buy a 2nd hand 2001 model TW200 I saw for sale and my friend and I have started to pull the bike apart and do all the customising ourselves cause we've never done it before and thought it would be a good winter project. I'll post some photos of our progress so far and hopefully have it done and on the road in the next few months. Feel free to drop any hints or info on things as we're pretty new to customising. Just learning stuff as we go along.

Cheers Slinky

Hey mate yeah I've seen your t-dub thread before on a trails site and saw your youtube vid a while ago too. Gave me alot of inspiration for my project actually. I'm working on my project with a mate who reckons he used to work with you at Odonnel Griffin as a sparky a few years back. Small world if this is true haha hope your project has turned out well. Can't wait to get mine finished for the warmer months around the corner. How does your t-dub handle Sydney traffic? Easy to thrash through town?

Oh really? Who's that? Yeah it's good in traffic, I think mine is too highly geared, 90kms max... Need it to be happier on higher speeds... It's got a 43 tooth rear sprocket but no idea on the front...

His name is Ryan Kovacs I think he was an apprentice there a while back. Yeah I think this will be a good city bike. 90 k's an hour is all right, I'm not fussed with going fast these days. I was looking at getting a red chain on mine to go with the colour combo I chose, but I'm having trouble finding one that's not $80 postage haha we get rorted being so isolated over here. I'll keep the forum updated in the next few weeks. Hopefully I will have made some progress and start reassembling soon. Cheers
Oh yes, I remember him... What's he up to now? Yeah we do get jammed a fair bit with postage!, especially from the states!

Next time you're in the garage, you think you could measure the front axle for me? Yours is still apart right? I want to fit a taller and narrower front wheel/tyre combo to mine... If you could get me some measurements of yours while it's apart that would be helpful!

Yeah sure I should be able to get some work done on it later this week. I will get some measurements for you. Ryan works down in Canberra now but we were travelling for a year or so and got back from the states recently and just got this project underway for winter. He comes up and helps me with it most wk ends. Do you ever take the tw to dirt tracks or anything or just use it as a run around?
na never used it on dirt, ive got a old XLX250 trail bike for that!

say hi to riaan for me!

keep us posted mate!
Any updates!! I've enjoyed following this project I'd like to see where she stands now!
Alright Slinky, enough is enough. We need some more pictures. What a GREAT job!!!
Don't fret fellas much progress has been made. She stands tall and well now. I'm currently in exam mode as I'm studying full time at the moment and haven't had the time to get photos up lately. I'll have some new pics soon. STAND BY COMING SOON!!
I've been a bit slack lately and haven't been round the forum much. I'm still waiting on a few parts to arrive to finish her off completely with new guards etc, but here are some recent pics of what I've done and how she stands on the road. Comments please!!

This is what we ended up doing for the back light and indicators. Just a simple little piece of aluminum folded over and drilled through. It seems to work fine so far.

This is just before we finalised everything. That green thing is an ice cream bucket holding my battery and cables haha. We liked the idea for laughs but it's obviously quite ugly. I got my self a neat lithium ion battery and it fits snug just under the seat in a sturdy plastic lunch box

This is how she stands now. I will be soon replacing the front white guard and getting a rear guard on there too. This should give it more of the look I'm aiming for. The plastic white guard just doesn't do it for me.

Got my self a neat pod filter from e-bay for about $20. I'm pretty happy with it and think it looks pretty cool.

Yes I know I've got two odd mirrors. Stupid japan-webike sent me only one when they advertise two. I have had infuriating problems with this site. Has anyone else had bad experiences with webike? This is what she looks like from the back end.

This is me on the distinguished gentlemen's ride in Sydney. Go to this link for cool cafe racer info / events that are around the world. http://www.sydneycaferacers.com/

I'll gradually be getting a few more bits and pieces on the bike done in the coming weeks. I'll be sure to keep you all updated.

Cheers, Slinky

I forgot to mention the upholstery on the seat was done by Lincoln @ prestige link auto trim at Botany in Sydney. He did a great job on the seat that I'm very pleased with. Cheers!
I absolutely love the tank. That gives it a whole different look. Very nice!
Very nice! I keep coming to the conclusion that I need more than one TW!!!! I want to build several!!! I like how everyone makes their Tdub their own
