wow - what did u start off with? 200 or 225?

That's just wicked, makes me wish I had even the slightest clue about how to do things like this so I don't have to rely on them to do it.



It's time they follow suit. Throw in 6 gears so the TW is much more comfortable at 55-65 with the extra power of a 250 and some architectual mods to make the thing run a little cooler, and we will have the perfect bike. Not too big like a 650 and not too small for real highway use like the 200 is. I know I know it will do it now, but it's no fun riding something that's so dang wound up even at 55. My stock Nighthawk 250 runs 60 mph at only 6000 in 5th (top) which is nice and smooth for a 250, actually it's only a 233cc. I know a TW250's 6th gear could easily do the same or better!

Holy smokes, now that is super cool. BTW I started my own build thread, and it's been super hard to keep momentum going on the build, life stuff (my job) really jams things up. Haha! SO I can relate.



So is it a stroked 200? Do you mind giving the basic details here on this thread?

I am happy to share the build and pics it just takes me a little time to put it together.



Yes stroked 200. The stock TW is 67mm piston X 55.7mm stroke=196cc the new build is 71mmX62mm=245cc. That is the longest stroke I could go and use the stock cam chain. http://crankworks.com/index.php/contact did the rebuild on the crank with a TTR 225 rod.

I finally rode his bike with his LAST motor. I kept muttering "OmyfreakinGawd" afterward and now all I want to do is throw rocks at mine.



Ronnydog's kinda low key most of the time, but today he called me after his first ride on the new motor and for the most part kept muttering his version of "Omyfreakingawd" for most of the call.



This I gotta see.

The XT225 and TT-R230 transmissions and clutches can be used on a remachined TW countershaft and some parts swapping for the primary drive. Might as well throw in a kickstart kit if you have a newer bike. I expect if the 1st and top gears are about the same, ronny used the TT-R trans. The XT trans is much wider than the TT-R trans in the first 2 gears, though the top 4 gears are the same.

The big difference is the reduced gaps between the top three gears. It would be possible to run faster in 5th and have a better chance of the engine still turning enough rpm to maintain speed when shifted to 6th. Also, downshifting could be done to maintain higher speeds on hills and such.

I had a very cool treat the other day I went by Ronnydog's place and took his Lil'Beasty out for a spin. Firsts thing I noticed he had NO Leaks!(Ronny has pulled these bikes apart so many times that I think he could do it with his eyes closed) and secondly It fired right up! then Ron went and burped the throttle and a nice snappy and unusually throaty throttle response was the result. I started to sweat!

No strange rattling.

No Tap Tap Taping!

The motor sounded like a nice fresh uh....... 250cc TW !

Ronny was running a 55T sprocket on the rear and a 15T in the front (I think)plus that heavy monster tire on the rear.

I quickly put on my gear and He handed the machine over to me and out the driveway I went.

I could immediatly feel the difference as I pulled out onto a 50mph thoroughfare! Brrrup, click 2, brrrup, click3, brrup, click4, brruup, click5, weeeeeeee! brruuupppp click6! WHAT !!!

SHEESH !(SIX Speed tranny) I forgot. I thought it was just the low gearing Yes it was a little low but I was not in top gear. and I got there 55mph with out wringing the TW's neck to do it. This Lil Beasty has much more grunt down low. I was excited. I could only imagine running a 14t-45T combo with a stock tire and swingarm and it's wheelie time baby!

Now Ronnie has the power needed to do even more of the cragy sketched out boulder fields he likes to drag me through.

Can as TTR225 barrel / liner be used on the stock TW200 cases? Does the TW200 case need machining? Is the stock TTR piston ok to use as is or does it need material removed Are the head and cylinder bolt spacings ok? The reason I ask is there are plenty of TTR225 barrels out there for sale cheap.

Yes the TTR 225/230 barrel can be used on the stock case with a little mod. Stock TTR piston or the Wiseco YTM/YFM 225 piston with no mods. Head and cylinder bolts are the same.

This is effin awesome Ronny! I think the whole forum wants to ride your TW now lol (myself included)! This is a massively cool build. You realise you could seriously make a good deal of cash doing this build for people, right? Haha. I have to run right now but I eagerly await a chance to get back to this thread and finish reading all about it.

Bag, Its is really fun and I hope a lot of you get to ride it. I found a bag oring on the intake manifold that let air in and made it impossible to jet. Now that I'm close to the right jet 118 or 120 it hits a wall at 7/8 top speed and I thing the carb is to small. I talked to a moto mechanic friend and he changed the carb on his wife's TTR225 to a larger carb I think he said a 35mm and it flys. I am picking up a used TTR225 carb, intake tomorrow and hope to get it on this week. This is all new to me just learning as I go.

Your big displacement will run out of cam first, then carb. One really won't make much difference without the other. A little porting and polishing and valve work will help get the top end rpm back. I've crunched the numbers and even 10,000rpm will still have a piston speed low enough to avoid ring flutter and such. xr100.com will sell you all the parts except an exhaust to build a 250cc (74mm bore) TT-R 230 that makes 28hp for about $1600. Then stuff the TT-R guts in a TW case with a remachined countershaft. Use the 62mm crank and you'll be knocking around 266cc.

Querty, you may be right about the cam and carb. I need to try both and see if it helps. I talked to Frank at XL100.com great guy and very knowledgeable, he has a cam with a 254/258 duration and 380/359 lift and lobe centers at 104/108. What is your thought about his cam or the Web cams for this motor? I know so little about cams. Thanks

Mr Giz, Always great to hear from you. Yes I am having fun with this little beast in the dirt and on the street. I can't help but smile when I twist the throttle and it raps up to speed and oh yea I forget sometimes that it has an extra gear. Takes a little to get used to.

Thanks for the missing link, sometimes I think I am missing a link or a brick short when I do these projects with little or no knowledge of what I'm doing. This is a great place for the help I need, Thanks for the input from all! Russ was a big part of this with many hours on the phone. Thanks
