I adjusted the tappets using the timing mark at TDC. Rode the bike and wanted to get the top end tapping noise to go away so after reading some of the posts, I adjusted them again after taking the cam cover off and using the timing mark on the cam at TDC. I test rode the bike and noticed the bike has a noticeable power increase. The tapping noise is still there but I am now believing this is just the way the engine sounds normally. I am living with the noise. I do recommend that you take the extra 2 minutes and take the cam cover off and use the timing mark on the cam gear at TDC to set your tappets.

What is the difference? Unless you get bottom dead center by taking the wrong stroke as compression stroke, no difference i presume ?
I use a pencil in the spark plug hole to determine the compression stroke. Much easier..! ;-)

I do the same with regard to removing the cam cover. It takes me a total of 30 seconds to remove and reinstall and there is no guesswork. Line up the timing mark on the cam sprocket and go?

Triplet end was your intake valve tight? A buddy of mine noticed a bump in power when he did his valves once and the intake side before the adjustment it was quite tight.

Yes, line up the marks at TDC. I BELIEVE THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE METHOD TO SET THE TAPPETS.

The tapping noise is still there but I am now believing this is just the way the engine sounds normally. I am living with the noise. ​
My engine had a tappet noise that wouldn't go away no matter how many times I adjusted the valves. Finally I removed the adjusting screw and could see the end of the valve was worn.

I have posted this picture a couple of times before but it is a lot easier to see what is wrong than me trying to explain it -- the end of the valve is worn and an accurate adjustment using a feeler gauge is very difficult, if not impossible. In this case one might be able to get it quiet by using a feeler gauge to get it as close as possible and then make the adjusting screw just a teeny tiny bit tighter -- but make sure there is still up and down clearance.

I always set my valves at the loose end of the adjustment range, but not so loose that you hear them tapping. This also gives a little fudge room in case you don't adjust tappets during scheduled maintenance intervals. The clearance decreases as the valve train wears. It also seems to increase the torque characteristics especially at lower RPM's.
