Hey yall,
I'm new to the forum, just hooked a 2007 Tdub, low miles, just trying to fix the couple of things that need fixing. Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on how to know when the valves need adjusting?

While I believe the recommended valve adjustment service interval is every 3,000 miles many will adjust before then or when valve train noise causes concern. Especially if one notices a change in valve related noise don't wait. Procedure is well described in many forum places threads, like in the lower left corner of this screen under "SIMILAR THREADS"

The only comment I have on his technique is that a square drive deck screw and a pair of small vise-grips works just as well as the fancy tool (NOT needle nose pliers!!). Once you get the adjuster lock nut moderately tight with an open end wrench the tappet will not move when you apply final torque with the 1/4' drive torque wrench. (hopefully, but still always check before putting cover back on.)
