Thought the '69 DT-1 was white? But that was a long time ago. Maybe I should watch the video tonight.........

Mike
No, but maybe you were thinking that bike was a 1973 Yamaha CT3. It had the same color paint as the 1969 DT1. The DT1 was a 250cc bike, the CT3 was a 175cc.
The 1968 Yamaha DT1 was white though.

I'm halfway through viewing the video and I think they are nuts. First, in WINTER?! They have a support truck but no spare parts that are prone to breakage: levers, shifters, etc? Carrying bikes across pavement, riding shoulders, I call bogus on a route across Wyoming via dirt ROADS. I know they said the only rule was the tires must not touch pavement, but the spirit of the trip was compromised.

I'll watch the other half later, but for now, that's about all I could take. Reminded me of the movie, "Dumb and Dumber" Ha!

(I've done my fair share of stupid rides in my life, but by their age, learned enough to do the research so the trip remained more adventure than endurance.)

I remember a white one on the cover of Cycle Guide(?) when the DT1 was first introduced. I bought a red '70 in summer of '72. The orange ones I remember were the smaller ones, 90's or 100's. Had a buddy that had a green one, 175 I think but maybe 125. Traded up to a 250 Elsinore a year later, lost track of the Yamaha Enduros after that.

As a young buck of 18 years I was fortunate to have a landlord that insisted I take his brand new DT-1 (orange) for my 2 week vacation. I broke in his bike travelling up and down Highway 1. I had no plan or direction. I recall sleeping in the bushes / ivy of the Santa Cruz college campus one night. Had very little money so hotels were not an option. Still one of the best vacations ever.
The guys in the video are waaay more stubborn than I was, lol. I would not have any desire to endure their travails even as a young guy.

Those two boys used to have a TV show for a short while called Throttle Out (I think that was the name of it). Each episode was just like that video but different scenarios and tactics. The did one where they took (2) brand new Honda Monkeys and did the Baja 1000 with them. Those little Monkeys did quite well if the show was true to form. Then they did a show where they made a SUV bike out of a BMW. They got whatever model of BMW from a junk yard and cut it right in half. They then put some, I think either 8' or 10' sections of tubing in to make what they called an "extended" frame. The front rider was the throttle man and steered it. And the rear rider, about 8' or 10' back, was the gear man who selected the gears. They called it an SUV bike 'cause they had a fake rider in the middle, some luggage, and some other stuff that to all represent the bike being an SUV that could haul all that stuff and spare passengers.

That was a crack up too to watch. After they'd rode some of Los Angelus streets, they headed off road in a climb to some destination like a hotel or something way up in the mountains only to find out when they got there, the fire department was evacuating the building for some reason.

Yep, those two have had some serious adventures. They also took to Honda 90's or one 90 and one 125 all the way up to Alaska.

Not sure what route yet. Im in north central ks 20 miles from Nebraska border. Need to get the map out and do some homework.

Lived in Dodge City for awhile {40+ years ago} as Radio News Director at KGNO Radio...got back a few times over the years, place sure has changed {not for the better, it was pretty laid back in 1980}...

Montezuma, Borneo, Weasel, and Hoot, spent a night at Colby on I-70 back in 2015 on our original Moab Adventure...
