I have no use for Pit bull dogs! Some are sweet as pie while others need to be stone cold dead. A friend had a sweet one that attacked the kid next door. Absolutely useless animal and I love dogs, they just can't be trusted.

Most guys think they could beat a dog off but are highly mistaking. I would absolutely demand that dog be dead and also sue the renters and home owner. They had a big enough pot to feed a monster from and the owner of the property has to have home owners insurance.

Problem with Pit Bulls are the owners{think that POS Mick Vick and others} who use the dogs as weapons because frankly most Pit Owners of the fighting ilk, are gutless turds who don't have the ball or brains to fight on their own, one on one.

Now I realize that is a general sweeping statement and doesn't cover all Pit Bull owners, but a goodly number...lots of White and Black Trash own PBs and live in dumps, abuse their wives, and teach their kids to be bullies....

Case in point about 20 years ago, when I was working as Health Department Sanitarian{Inspector of all things, including getting low life types to clean up their property}...stopped at a dump owned by a family that had been around and frankly inbreeding {themselves and dogs} for years....I tell the skinny little bastard he needs to clean up the dump and I gave him 30 days or we were getting a court order to do it....his son let's the Pit Bull out the door and here she comes....I told Skinny, as I reached in my pick up for my .38...."That Dog Bites Me, I'm Shooting It, Then I'm going to Kick your Ass"...he grabbed the dog....and cleaned up the property{somewhat, Hilljacks being Hilljacks} ....

Would I have been legal in shooting the dog in self defense? The Sheriff was a buddy of mine, so was the Law Director...so I probably would have gotten away with both the killing of the dog, and perhaps kicking the shit out of the Thin Man....but the bottom line is, the idiots that raise these types of dogs are gutless weenies and need to be dealt with if confronted. Having said that, I raised Airedales for 40 years, some bad, but 95% were great family pets and hunters, it's all about the owners and the bloodlines of the dog/breed....

Exactly, in my years as Sanitarian then Environmental Health Director for two counties....you couldn't do much with Renters....but you could sure the Hell make life miserable for landowners and slum lords....and I did on more than several occasions...got to be there were a lot of Landlords that hated my guts...and I liked it that way....

^^^this...just because it looks like a pit bull doesn't mean that it is...unless you have a dna test to prove it then it could be a mixed breed dog (aka mutt)...even shelters that don't dna test just classify a dog as a pit if they don't know what it is...media does the same with most dog attacks cause it causes ratings to go up...dogs aren't born bad they are taught/learn to be just like humans...some of these dogs are taught to do horrible things and once they are rescued and rehabbed they are great dogs...they forgive much more easily than humans do...plus a pitbull isn't even a breed...it's a generic term to describe 2-5 breeds depending who is classifying the dog...the real problem is ill informed people believing the media...i was one of them that thought they were mean dogs...i was ignorant...my girlfriend at the time (now wife) had 2 pits and talked me into getting one...after i did my homework on the subject i was comfortable with the decision...now i will never own any other breed of dog...he's a great dog!...plus low maintenance as far as short hair (never need to cut it), not allergic, no slobber, never smells bad (like dogs with a lot of hair/fur)...just needs a lot of exercise, socialization, discipline and love

"The most narrow and perhaps most accurate definition of the term “pit bull” refers to just two breeds: the American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) and the American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff). Some people include the Bull Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Bulldog in this group because these breeds share similar head shapes and body types. However, they are distinct from the APBT and the AmStaff."

Irregardless of the breed when a dog ( or other animal) attacks often there is no time for any defensive maneuver. Zdiver1 can attest to this, he was blindsided. Tremendous damage can occur in a very short time before one can reach for a defensive weapon.

I can't blame the breed, Pit Bull. I don't like them at all but not because of the breed. The owner is always the problem and some have no right owning anything more dangerous than a turtle.

With that said, a lot of dogs are very protective of their owners and property. Not at all a bad trait unless the owner has little control and zero discipline of the dog. My own Brittany is an extremely loving and trusting dog who loves just about everyone and I would tell you she would not hurt a flea. She would rip your face off if she sensed fear in me or the wife from an aggressive stranger. She goes right after every bear that crosses our yard and has no fear at all.

I have been attacked more times than I can remember by ankle biting Chiouas and other pesky little creep dogs so when I say I don't trust it is more that I don't know the owner and how they have socialized their dogs. Pit Bulls just happen to be at the top of my don't trust list because they tend to be with some real scumbag owners a lot of the time. I have also owned a couple dogs that displayed some nasty and aggressive behavior, G. Shepard and Weimeriner, both died of lead poisoning! No room in my home for a dog I can't trust. Neither dog needed rescuing, just lead!

The Late James Garner stared in the 70's movie They Only Kill The Masters.
A Doberman in the movie named Murphy, was the clue to solving a murder. I said if I ever had a male dog I'd name it Murphy. I did in 2001.
miss him been almost a year.
At the time We had friends that raised Dobermans and another that raised German shepherds . We had Black labs.
Did you know people fear black dogs?

that's good...at least your clothing saved you from most of the damage which may have put you out of commission for a while and required rehab...i have a timex ironman that i've had for at least 15+ years now and i just keep replacing the battery...so reliable and at this point it's a classic

Point 37 I couldn't agree with you more regarding Pit Bulls as a breed. I was a skeptic and a critic of the breed prior to having one (as sooo many are,)and i have never had a more loving, child tolerant, and faithful companion. Kudos to you!
