Jacky, yeah, that's all I did today was look into good Tick and Chigger repellent. Found out that DEET doesn't work well for either. It only works in repelling while wet. Once it dries after applied, it no longer repels. Plus, DEET only repels, it doesn't kill them. What works best as repellent and kills them, is the ingredient called Permethrin. This works for up to 2 weeks after applying to skin and clothes. It does kill cats, so word of caution when using. I have dogs, which aren't in danger around Permethrin. So thanks for the info Jacky, I'll be using both, Permethrin and DEET. I have 2 good friends with Lymes, and lost another to it, after getting up to her brain. She suffered for many years.

Yeah, I only saw that one that fell off my glove onto my seat. My wife checked me real good head to toe when I got home. Nothing found. Then you sent me that text saying you found 3 crawlers and 1 already attached to your skin. I know about ticks, but these Chiggers are new to me. Yes, Heebejeebes for sure.......

I feel like getting a 55gal drum and doing a full body soak just before riding....:p Saw some nasty pics on my search today.

There are strong warnings to not apply permethrin directly on your skin. I treat a lot of my outdoors clothes with it but you're supposed to let them dry before wearing. There's how-to videos on youtube. They're supposed to stay treated for 8-12 weeks even if washed weekly. I buy it from a farm store in quart bottles of 10% concentration. Dilution is 19 or 20:1 to make it about .05%. It's a bunch cheaper that way. 1 Qt makes about 5 gal of ready to use solution. It has many uses. TSC has it on sale right now.

I just bought a quart tonight.

....because I was out back clearing brush and found this guy on me when I came in for lunch. I wasn't wearing deet or treated clothes and should have been. It's a male deer tick (Ixodes scapularis)...the kind that carries Lyme disease.

I don't know either. I never heard of them until I met Jacky. Kinda like a tick, but not a tick. When I googled them, I was shocked.

LOL, Tell me about it. I "tried" going to sleep an hour ago. Since this thread, all I'm doing is feeling and scratching...SOB Thanks Jacky....!!! LOL

Why? Because it's not the ones you feel or see. It's the ones you don't see that you gotta worry about..... Good Night.....:p

I remember getting a chigger in texas when I was a small boy. They will make you raw.

I don't know about putting anything on my skin that will kill a cat. Anything that you absorb your liver has to deal with. My folks used kerosene on shoes and low on the pantleg. I suppose that might be as bad though.

don't have them up here yet. Immigrants have brought us roaches though. Don't have them at my place personally, but the hotels are getting stocked up.

OK, so I just went to Walmart and got my defence. I'll use the Permethrin for my clothes, and Repel 100 for my skin. The small OFF stays in the bag on my bike, just incase. I should be OK now. F'in Chiggers....

Sawyer has: .5% Permethrin
Repel 100 has: 98.11% DEET
OFF Deep Woods has: 98.25% DEET

All 3 say for Ticks, Chiggers, Mosquitoes, Fleas, Gnats, Biting Flies, & Mites.
