What did I do on the Tdub today - nothing but admire my work from yesterday.
Yesterday's work - New Alumi-lite Answer bars in a dark grey anodized color [ from a previous bike of mine ]. New clutch lever with the leverage mod I do to all clutch levers. Lastly, took an old XS Yamaha 650 mirror modified to be really little and give me a legal mirror but not mouse ears. Oh, lastly a black plastic plug for the right side mirror hole to hide it. Sat and had a beer admiring my hard days work and as always, loving being a retired old fart,,,,and drinking beer. :giggle: :)

Funny you guys talking about the kickstands and the TW's leaning. I never gave it much thought - But I have a square piece of a 2X6 that I always slide under my stand in the shop when parked - because it leans pretty far.

I found in the manual that the torque spec for the side cover is 5.1 Ft-Lb. The front sprocket has a cover plate with two bolts. Spec is 7.2 Ft-Lb on the two bolts.

A lifetime of training horses has earned me a broken jaw, knocked out teeth, broken pelvis, dislocated wrist, dislocated jaw, hundreds of stitches, herniated discs, and more. I literally snap, crackle, and pop when I walk.
Adrenaline junkies die hard. 😂
Our last Vet lady in AZ was damn near killed when a horse crushed her. She still took care of our much loved Malamute, Sierra. Great lady.

Burns are the worst - and they take a long time to heal. I knew a guy that was working on a fuel pump and trying to energize it to troubleshoot. It energized all right and sprayed fuel, which ignited and he had a really badly burned arm. The whole length of his arm. He used Vitamin E on it, and dang - if that didn't heal up fast and you could hardly tell. I was really surprised by how well that Vit E worked.

I am in the process of new chain & sprockets. The previous owner must have had the chain derail and it scratched up the rear sprocket and I can't have that. So a new rear 50T is on, and the front will be a +1 tooth. Probably finish up tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing how it does with the +1T front. After that is OEM blinkers going back on so I can take it out on the road a little.

I finished up the sprocket and chain refresh with the new 15T front = EXCELLENT! Will say, that is more work to change a front sprocket than any other motorcycle I have had in 50 years. Sprocket is easy, but side cover BS, is not so easy and kind of killed my mojo on sanding down the side cover and giving it a fresh coat of paint. Way too much BS.
But, in the end, it was a fun job working in the shop with the little TW. I really like the gearing now. Fresh oil & filter, fresh sprockets, and chain, we are good for a long time in those departments.

So how many people have screwed up the starter gear putting things back on - I bet there are some.

Next - New tires! Yea,,,,,, changing tires is always entertaining and always good for a few swear words...

I think you have to do what you feel is right for you but i personally think the whole "ethanol" thing is so overblown its not even funny any more. E10 has been my reality here in the north east for like 15 years, there is no gettting away from it around here at all. The nearest non ethanol at the pump is over 4 hours away from me..... In that time not once have i had a carburetor issue on anything i have owned that has them and i have a bunch. The only thing i do is marine stabil in my cans when i fill them, i run it all the time in all my yard equipment. I have had zero problems.

As far as the TW's go, i just fuel them up at whatever gas station and ride them and when i put them up for winter they get a dose of the marine stabil when i fill the tanks for storage, that's it. I dont even run them out of fuel, and the only time i ever shut off the petcock is if i'm pulling the tank. This winter is the first time i have pulled the carb apart on either bike since i rejetted them a decade ago. My better half's had a stall issue so i pulled the carb to make sure it wasn't clogged, it was spotless. The stalling issue was electrical.
Let your gut tell you what you want to do, reading it sounds like you actually already know - that's a good thing.
