I'm fairly new to motorcycle but still learning. Can anyone tell me what this little ring is called? It's clear and last time I checked it, it was a bit dark with what I'm guessing was oil.

But it's clear now (empty) and I don't know if that's an indication that i've replaced the oil (which I did, since I had to drain it to replace the sprockets) or that it needs oil? If it needs oil then that's the sign of a major leak i'm not seeing since it was only yesterday that I replenished it.

Is it the right side case?

You might be looking at the oil fill level, lack of better words a glass eye so you can see oil level. If the bike is parked on its stand then the eye will be empty. But if you hold the bike up straight you will see the oil.

decade03, the easiest way to share photos on this forum is to open a photobucket account, upload your photos there, and then from photobucket you can "direct link" copy/paste them into the field on the "insert image" tool on the forum full editor.

You can keep your albums private on photobucket and still post the photos here, if privacy is an issue.

Links are boo, pics are yay!

Sorry all, I was sure the picture was available. In fact I was talking about the glass eye on the right side of the bike, which reads the oil level. And I did manage to fix the problem! Just a dumb amateur mistake. The bike was on it's peg and the oil could not be read until it was upright as TwoWheeler noted. Sorry for wasting your time gentlemen but I appreciate your replies!
