Hey just curious what brand/kind of oil everyone uses. A friend told me about Maxima brand oil so I bought some and just changed my oil the other day. I'll report any postives/negatives if there are any

What oil threads are infamous for causing arguments and endless discussion.

If this is a serious question and not a wind up, then a good quality brand name within Yamaha's spec is the only recommendation from me.

Other opinions will be along soon no doubt.

I have tried a few different oils. When I first bought my tw I used 15w40 rotella oil then mobil 1 20w50 syn and currently running 5w40 syn rotella t6 for the colder weather coming. All of these i can get at my local walmart which is nice. Both of the rotella oils I mentioned do say they meet the requirements of jaso dh-2 and jaso MA. Some run automotive oils, diesel oils and motorcycle specific oils. Everybody has opinions on it but as long as it's not energy-conserving, you change it often and you don't run it to low or "out" i really doubt that you ever have a problem.

I suggest you take this advice as basic gospel, then read the next 26 pages which are sure to result for their entertainment value and the few kernels of valid info presented.

"26 pages " haha that's funny. I wasn't trying to start a civil war or anything just curious if anyone found something significantly better than the others.

I use only the purest Oil of Yak. If you don't:

A. Well, yer ugly.

B. You shot Abe Lincoln. Don't try to deny it, I got charts and graphs.

C. You can't ride a motorcycle

D. Your mother dresses you funny, but at least SHE can ride a motorcycle.

Used oil from McDonalds french fry vats. Filter it through cheesecloth to get the big chunks out. Don't use the oil from the fish cooker--your motorcycle will smell like a 3rd-world whorehouse.

Don't laugh, I'm restoring a 1972 Opel GT and just bought a resonator from a guy who had a 77 VW diesel pickup running on vegetable oil. Actually 25% diesel and 75% vegi-oil. He said it was pretty slow, but fuel was only costing him $1.00 per gallon. I didn't actually see it run, but was wondering if it smelled like french fries going down the road.

Mobil 1 4T racing oil.

On the freeway my tach says 9K+ rpm and that sounds like racing to me. I change it at 1500 miles because if I go longer it looks ugly and like it has never been changed.

I am tired of paying $12/qt. Next time I use a semi synthetic for $6/qt, or pure dino for $4/qt.
