Who elects these bozos!

Bozo.jpg

Only in California - Majority Leader Ian Calderon (D-Whittier) introduced a bill that would only allow restaurants to offer straws to dine-in customers if they ask for them. Assembly Bill 1884 would fine violators between $25 to $1,000. They could also be found guilty of a misdemeanor and be given a county jail sentence of less than six months.
"We need to create awareness around the issue of one-time use plastic straws and its detrimental effects on our landfills, waterways, and oceans," Calderon said. "AB 1884 is not ban on plastic straws. It is a small step towards curbing our reliance on these convenience products, which will hopefully contribute to a change in consumer attitudes and usage."

Freaking nut job, should he not be working on how to help make the state solvent instead of this ??? !!! We need a nationally mandated federal and state mandated balanced budget phase in project.

... I would like to see how much that POS had sent to the landfill in his life.
Every sinner has a future..... When do we accept the need to change? The world your children will inherit does not look so good....

No problem, fiscal impact is to be lessened by California Franchise Tax Board recent claiming of 1/2 of the federal corporate tax savings just introduced by the Trump administration to be paid to California for this and other social engineering programs.. This should further accelerate corporate flight from California.

The oceans are turning into plastic soup - fines are silly - but it has to stop somewhere

Curiously enough. Lebanon has a habit of burying it's rubbish on beaches - guess what happens everytime there's a storm ?

Lebanon rubbish: Storm dumps piles of waste along coast - BBC News

Either we address the issue or we lose our oceans - it's up to the politicians now, whether you like it or not, or whether you consider them "on-side" or not

Here in Wales, we put a sale price on a simple plastic supermarket bag that had been free for years - "enshrined" it in law - who makes the laws - the politicians

In a way, it's kinda nice to see them doing something positive for a change - something your kids will benefit from - although this particular one seems a bit draconian

However - don't sweat it - you are still free to bear arms and kill each other at will - just watch out where you dump the bodies ....... :p

Thought this was a discussion about plastics...... I don't think it will be economics or social engineering programs that limit California.... More likely lack of water... Not unlike Cape Town currently

Yes; and hopefully just like the last time:
England having banned firearms (to whatever extent); having Hitler on her doorstep and no guns for the PEOPLE to fight with...........
It was the American PEOPLE sending personnel firearms along with the government so the English people would have the ability to fight on their home land............:
we would be able to do that again.

Most of these arseholes have a straw shoved pretty far up their nose and what goes through it scrambles their limited brains. Yup, we need a rule, law or regulation for just about everything under the sun and while they are at it fix the sun itself. Tell me, who wants to pay the salaries for all these new "Green Police" to do the enforcement of all these BS rules?

Old w/?? – you’re wrong on more counts than I care to mention (on a thread about plastics)

However – should you wish to start a new thread on the subject – I’ll be happy to engage with you (rules of debate apply, keep it respectful at all times) ……

I don't know if we would respond that way or not? The past Administration was all for sneaking guns into Mexico and arming a segment of the Middle Eastern, and African Idealogies, many of whom would like to see our heads cut off. (Referance Europe, and the many problems going on there due to both legal and illegal immigration )

This new guy, President Trump, whom I happen to like and voted for, sees things a bit different... He seems more willing to actually want to help our " true allies" who in most instances also seem to have our back. This has been stated to the entire United Nations organization by our current Administration by our Ambassador to the UN Nicky Haley in no uncertain terms.

Besides that, have we not been Re-Cycling Plasics for years now ??
I don't see many Pacific Rim countries mention having monatary deposits on their plastics as we do on bottles here at home in many states.

Possibly, this proposed "plastic straw fine idea" is in fact another way to fund California's debt as well as their immigration policies ?Don't forget the current Sancuary City/ State issue where federal funding over that issue may be slowing way down or possibly even stopping as far as some program funding now goes ? Due to this issue alone, I can see california scrambling for additional funds from any direction ?

Boy!! did this get off of TW200's

This is what happens when you put liberals, commies, pinkos, perverts, hippies, weirdos, socialists, dum-o-crats, etc, etc. in government offices.

A few years back they tried to outlaw cattle because their flatulence was a green house gas.

Do gooders doing good. Whats next ?

Outlaw plastics? Outlaw guns? Outlaw flatulence?

This is another fine example of politicians doing their partisan duty of dividing the states of america instead of presenting reasonable solutions.

I think a fine is not just fine, it's great! But the amount of the fine is too great, and jail time is ridiculous.

I understand if you don't want to get moldy spilled product off the lip of your canned/bottled beverage in your mouth, but do you really NEED a straw to drink from a regularly washed glass in a restaurant? Personally I don't buy beverages except coffee and carry a reusable water bottle. Plastic reduction is over due IMO. I prefer a time before plastic when things lasted and were worth taking care of and reusing. Most disposable products are garbage waiting to happen. Remember that we used buy footwear that with care and resoling nearly lasted a lifetime. Now we're lucky to get a year out of a pair of sneakers....straws are just a small start.

Now grocery bags are another story...everyone I know uses them as garbage bags. So are the grocery stores doing whats best for the environment or trying to reduce overhead and sell more garbage bags?
