What oil creates the smoothest shifting on the TW.? All of mine seem like they could be smoother. I am running Rotella 15/40

FWIW these things are sensitive to chain slack when it comes to shifting. I run Rotella with no shifting issues, but back when I was burning up the standard chain poor shifting meant it was time to adjust the chain.

I used Rotella for a while but couldn't stand the valve noise.

Well I went with real Redline Ester Synthetic 10W-40 MC OIl



Nicer but when poking around the forest breaking trail

she overheats and basically STOPS shifting



On my Vstrom I got an improvement with a small amount of

Seafoam originally added as a pre change flush but

noted improved shifting, fact, but not recommending to others



Some bikes do react badly to chain tension either lose or tight

Ester based synthetics tend to better shifting. Psuedo synthetics are not usually quite so good, but generally better than dino oils.



Be careful with the newer versions of Rotella. Newer formulations are losing their ZDDP content in response to federal emissions regulations. The old formulations that have served so well for so many years are being phased out.

I use 1qt of bananas!

I have tried Yamalube, Mobil V-Twin, Motomaster, and Amsoil.



favourite by far is Amsoil. Bike runs quieter (no more valve noise), doesn't lurch into first when cold, and neutral is easier to find.
