Silly sign pictures since the Nibbler TW is somewhat ice-bound and unridable today. :( Parked outside to create garage room to work on other TW, Nibbler's tarp cover blew away with windy leading edge of a storm front allowing bike to get soaked in rain. Subsequent cold snap has since iced things up.

First ride of the New Year yesterday. No snow or ice out, and have had a few recent showers to wash the salt off the roads. Did 27 miles in 34 degrees. I didnt see any other motorcycles out, lol.

I rode to work then to my Mom's this evening, to work on the Rv. It started out in the 60's this morning and was in the 50's when I came home this evening. I hit 49,575 today on my TW. Going down the freeway at legal speeds I was flying past cars like I was really speeding. It amazes me how people just seem to stop on the freeway when there is nothing around at all to slow them down.

I was hiking with my dog yesterday and found some good roads that i had not been on. I loaded the TW in the horse trailer this morning with my buddy and he went one way and i went another. Riding into the sun i hit a Boulder i couldn't see and somehow managed to knock my chain off. The chain bound up inside with the front sprocket.
I remembered seeing a steel plate someone had used for shooting practice. I hiked a mile until i found it. Carried it back and used the stake to work the chain out of the housing. Got it back on and headed out.
I started down a long hill and it got bad. I didn't think i could get back up so i continued on. Roads got better and i made it to a freshly graded County road, then black topthen the highway. 6 miles of highway to the truck. Not quite what i had in mind for the day.

20-50 works fine above freezing.
Just for Info. I am doing some maintenance on my HD. It has HD's 20/50 Synthetic oil for the engine. When I opened the cam cover [ lower end ] that 20/50 was like the thickest maple syrup you've ever seen. Reminded me of our High attitude, cold weather start testing of Type I and Type II oils when I was working.
But I was quite surprised at how THICK the HD oil was at 40ish°. That was in my shop that got down to 42°. what does that mean = you decide.

I run 20W50 in quite a few airplanes and in my older trucks. I run 25W60 in the radials. Usually plug the heater in when it gets in 30s but off-airport i can't. Oil pressure comes up in a few seconds. I run full synthetic 10W40 in my TW. If it had more mile on it and summer i would run 20W50. I never get to ride in hot temps anymore.

I rode today for around 6 hours.
Osceola National Forest
Chilly to start, then a slight warm up.

No pics. Didn't even log my mileage. Just rode.
Don’t let him fool you folks. There is a lot more to that story than what he’s letting on😄
How'd I miss this?

Anyways....yeah it was chilly that morning, so we opted to haul the bikes out to our meeting spot. I roll in, and long story short....ended up locking my dang keys in the truck. The TW keys were in the bikes ignition, but my helmet & boots were in the truck. And no cell service. I won't share how we got in, but thankful for a piece of tool I'd found years earlier, and for the 2 gentlemen there, and we did get it unlocked.

WHEW!! :)
