Why don't dirt bikes have wide tires like the TW?

Flotation, is it over-rated? Ask our rice farmers and other soft field operators.:)

Not to say one should spend 100K on tires for an 18 ft wide TW but I do like superior performance of wider ATV tired TW in mud, snow and sand. ATV tire has taken me further up some challenging loose slopes where in past the OEM tire spun and sank.
The MX tired bikes I've seen here usually spin and dig using bigger hp thrust to get around but notice the hooked up tracks I leave...wider tire can often put enough power down without breaking the tenuous bond between underlying soil particle grains or between tread and the soil particles ( Mancos shale here with very little dry cohesive strength)...i.e. one can often slowly creep like a jeep lessening wear and tear on both environment and machine ( and usually less on the operator too).

However sometimes it is a tie between narrow and wide tires..KLX250 in background:cool:

That was some impressive riding for our underpowered bikes.(y)
Assuming drone level steep stuff I measured a max of 30 degrees ( 58% grade, or 1 ft up for every hard fought 1.73 ft forward).
I don't think the extra power of 229cc TTR engine, longer swingarm and ATV tire would have gotten me any fuirther up the hill even if I did have those guy's extra enthusiasm.:)
