Found this today...any ideas why its smushed down in the middle? It looked like the first pic after my break in, went on a 5 hour ride after the oil change, pulled everything apart today to change the oil again and found the filter smashed.

Well....that's a new one. I have no idea. That would have to be some real oil flow to collapse the filter.

Perhaps it was not seated/centered when the cover was screwed on?.....looks kinda old?.

Its from my 87 parts bike that i switched over. I liked the metal screen...easy to wash out and clean. Theres only one way it can go in as far as i know....right?

No, he's probably right. It only goes in one way but if the cover wasn't aligned exactly it could have caught the edge of the filter and squeezed it. It's so flimsy ya probably wouldn't have even noticed.

I'd considering buying a handful of the yamaha filters with metal screen: they're pleated, and because of that, I'd bet a bit stronger.



In the first pic: you making crafting glitter, or what?

Check for the old gasket still in the bike. maybe you stacked them.

The OEM filter has the brass screen.

Replacement filters (from Yamaha) are pleated paper.

Pleated paper? Whoa they really went all out. Can't wait for the replacement skidplate made out of cardboard!

Just an FYI, I got a couple of spare filters recently and both were wire mesh....Tusk - flat mesh like stock......HiFlo - pleated mesh (nice looking filter)
