Dumb question but would the fact that the small brass clip that contains the float housing in the picture be a cause of carb overflow because the end of the clip is not contained in the small circular part of the clip? Sorry for the terrible description and picture. It is the part in the middle of the larger brass piece that goes over the brass tang.

I'm really unsure of what you're saying exactly, but are you pointing out the "play" before the float tang catches the needle arm thingy? So long as it's within spec when you hold it right side up, it should be fine. Or essentially, flip it over and measure how much it is hanging compared to the manual specs and bend the tang to compensate.

Okay thanks i will check that. I was just wondering if the end of the wire that goes over the tang on the left side should end up housed in the circular part of that brass wire. I had a problem after I went through and cleaned the main jet and pilot jet and replaced the bowl gasket. When I put it on and turned the petcock to on the carb would overflow out of the overflow tube. I found a couple possibilities. One is the post under the vrass tang that moves the float up and down was pretty sticky so i got that moving freely. The other was when I originally pulled out the main jet holder there was no o ring so I got the smallest size o.d. o-ring that would still fit over the nozzle of the jet holder and put that on. When I screwed the holder back in it was VERY tight. So after I pulled it apart I decided to look at that part again and the o-ring I put in was broken and probably plugging the holes on the outside of the holder. I also looked down the hole and there is still an original o-ring seated in there. So I am hoping it was either that o-ring I put in or the float not moving freely. I am just concerned about the hold down of that tang on the float top not being in the proper location so the float could be in the wrong location. I also replaced the needle and seat while i was in there again and put a larger main jet in.

The needle seat needs to be in right, and you need proper float height. The picture looks normal as is, so get the float height right and the rubber seat properly in place. If you can do those things right, you shouldn't have overflow.

Oh, and word to the wise: when in doubt, set valves to the most clearance within spec. They will get tighter over time.

Honestly I do not know what was wrong. I cleared up the post under the float and removed the extra o-ring in the main jet holder and put in a new needle and seat set and put her back together and success. I think it was the extra o-ring in the main jet holder.
