Been lurking for a couple weeks just got my 05 TW and was wondering if one of these cool old tanks might work on our little machines, sure would look cool and I have an old 1979XS500 tank just sitting around.

I know there not gonna bolt right on, but I think they look really cool and probebly are at least close to the size tank the lil tw should have. Any input appreciated!

Thanks!

You will be the first so let us know how much trouble it is. Any tank can be made to fit but some are certainly not worth the effort, because of the amount of retrofit of brackets etc. Do a mockup and let us know. Tom

I had access to 2 styles of the old DTer tanks to try to fit to the TW. The later style like this:

Would fit with something like a bracket in the rear, but the front was a little different. The DT has the round rubber mounts on the tank, whereas the TW200 has the round rubber mounts on the frame.

The earlier one was cooler, but you'd have to get creative to make it fit. I think it was the same story with the front mounts, but in the rear, the tunnel was not as wide toward the rear and where the backbone of the frame split off to the parts that go down to the footpegs would hit the tank. You may want something with that kind of incline though?

Bringing back an old one.
I too am searching for a larger vintage metal tank to put on a TW. Anyone found some good options?

I've seen photos of other TW's on a quick google image search, one with a Honda CB tank, and one with a Yamaha XS400 tank, but really no clue what years or what was involved with mounting them. I really liked them though.
Any help, tips, or other photos here are much appreciated!
Thanks.

I just started digging into a bike I picked up this winter. It has what appears to be a 75 Suzuki GT550 tank on it. The front slides right over the rubber tabs on the frame and there are a couple of extensions that were fabbed to hold the rear. I'll try to get some pictures for reference.
