Lazyness. All you can do is buy one online and install it; otherwise you gotta live without it.

Just remember that a 650 single has a bore nearly as big as a truck, and the stroke isn't far off either. They're definitely not designed to be wound out - keep the engine speeds low (without lugging of course) and you'll be in the strongest part of the powerband and the bike should last you a long time. IIRC the redline on most 650 singles like the DR and the XR is around 6,000 - maybe 6,500 at most. Pretty slow compared to a 10k TW or 16k 600cc race bike. Or crazier yet, the CBR250RR - a 249cc inline 4 that winds all the way to 20,000...putting out almost 4 times the power of a TW with a rated 52 HP.

 

When the price is already low, I can't bring myself to try and negotiate a lower price. I know that's not the way it works : everyone tries to get the best price they can, both buyer and seller and that's the way it should be.

I did the Clarke tank, Corbin seat and small Givi windshield and it was a mileage eating monster. If you are going to do a lot of highway then leave the gearing alone, if you are going off road a lot then change sprockets to lower the first gear.

 

Some of you know me from my posts here, I've been looking to try and make a deal on any year TW200 for over a year now and my price point of $1,000.00 was just too low for even an '87 TW. I finally found a near mint condition 1997 Suzuki DR650 for only $1,000.00 after a little negotiation... It has a little over 10k miles on it was garage kept and beautiful. Since I'm 6'01 and 195pds this bike probably works out better for me anyway.

After my third day of ownership I'd have to say its one of or the best bike I've ever owned out of my 11 bikes over 40 years. View attachment 8153

What are the main points you like about it so much.....besides the 650 torque .

 

They are nice! Before the I got the TW, I thought and dreamt of a DR/KLR/XL sized bike. Still wouldn't mind one if I had the cashola. As I've gotten older my dream has been reduced to something like a DR350. Now it's a 250. Soon I'll come full circle back to the TW.

 

Well, it's definitely a full sized bike, will go through just about anything you ride into/onto, if they were to name an "Armageddon" bike this would be it, it's a beast of a bike. I like taking my wife along and being a large frame bike and the extra HP makes it a great 2 up ride. I also like the looks of it as well, some bikes to me look real ugly and some are real appealing and to me this is one of them (especially this color theme).

 

My 2011 DR650 I would hate to know have much I have spent on mods.

I had a 2009 XT-250 very good bike the new ones are fuel injected it is air cooled and you could probably put the "7375" oil cooler on it.

I have a dr650 as well. it looks a bit like zdiver1's bike I'm taking it on the COBDR next week, super excited! you will love it I am sure. They definitely are tanks that are fairly cheap to maintain/upgrade.

Procycle is a great resource for dr650 stuff, you can pretty much find everything you need there. and from my research it's pretty competitively priced.

Share your Pictures on the COBDR in the other bikes when you get a chance. I am going to do the AZBDR soon got the map and dvd but I am going to do it in three sections the hard stuff I want to do on the TW and easy more fire roads on the DR The desert will kill you in the summer in AZ last week I work outdoors and it was 118 .
