Hello all I am new to the TW200 Forum and new to bikes in general also. I recently got a old TW200 from my uncle who had it since 05 or 06 in his basement not running. I know its a TW200 but Im trying to figure more about it like what model year it is etc. I want to rebuild it and keep it to enjoy it. I have the VIN but when i try and use a VIN Decoder it doesnt work I haved linked pictures of the bike and VIN below. When i looked up TW200 VIN they all start with a J and this starts with a U. Any help is much appreciated. Look forward to chatting with you guys!

Welcome to the forum!

I believe that you are misreading the first character of the VIN as a U, when it is actually a J. Try re-entering the VIN using a J.

The sticker indicates that your bike was manufactured in 6/96, my guess is it is a model year 1996 or 1997 depending upon when Yamaha made the model year changeover. The VIN is also stamped into the steering head below the sticker. The seat is clearly from a different year.

Look at the 10th digit / letter in the VIN. An "S" is 1995, a "T" is a 96. You can go up and down accordingly.

1980 models that 10th digit / letter was an A. Just count up from there.
