Shinko SR 241 in 130/18-80 front tire

seems this SR241 is the most used/suggested as a front tire. Checking the internet for pricing / buying. Don't seem to find the size (not in 5.10-18 either?). Shinco's website does not show that size either. What is wrong? Any help? Anyone knows of best "black Friday" pricing?

There's always good ol' Amazon. $52.46 free shipping... http://amzn.to/2gvtHXC

p.s. This 4.00 is smaller on paper, but installed measures almost exactly the same as the stock front, and it is also great on pavement. Use stock tube if new-ish or new tube in stock size.

Definitely go for the sr241. You won't be disappointed. I tried the kenda 270 and was very disappointed. It was worse than the stock tire and on the road it felt unstable in the turns. The 241 feels like a dream. It tracks great in sand, mild mud, road (and wet road) and sticks like glue on sandstone and hard pack.

As for the size I got a 4.00 x 18. It's really close to stock, maybe a little bigger. Easy to install as well. I got mine from chaparral motorsports for $56.88.

Last what made me feel the most comfortable was that this tire is classified as a front or rear and not just a rear like most other options.

I haven't rode my TW200 more than 1/10th mile already before swapping out the Deathwing for a Shinko SR 241 on the front wheel. I like how the Continental TKC-80 works on my BMW and think that the Shinko will perform similarly on the TW200. The Deathwing feels slippery on pavement to me.

I did push the deathwing tire really hard on the turns and it actually grips really well on the pavement. I rode all the way down to the bottom of the side knobs and it never gave me any indication of slippage. I haven't pushed the sr241 that far yet but it does feel more sticky to me.

I should rephrase my last statement: The Deathwing feels MORE slippery on pavement to me. Just got some handguards from Amazon and some soft Givi bags, which I have to figure a way of supporting with a fabricated frame so they don't press the plastic to the muffler.

SR 241 came in today from Amazon/Bikebandit - dealer offered to mount for only $ 12.00 - beats me trying manhandling tires in the cold weather - will be mounted before Christmas and with a bit of luck can get the new "feelin" still before snow on the ground. I like this little bike a heck of a lot and ride it every day even if it's only for 15 - 20 minutes. Simply great, plain fun! Did raise the handle bars, installed wider foot pegs, now a new front tire and I plan on building a rack from conduit similar to cycleracks with side supports for soft panniers. That should be it for mods.

Surely, you can't be serious - the TW is like Legos - the mods never end.

It depends on where you ride. Here on the Wet coast the trials tire works great. I had one on my WR250r and then switched to the Motoz mountain hybrid ( a hybrid knobby trial tire ).
I did not like the 244 on the WR as I found it would not hook up for me. A friend runs them on his XT225 and loves them.

Those who have ridden on the Shinko 244 Goldenboy (which from what I understand is virtually the same as the Kenda 270) can you be a little more descriptive about what you were experiencing as being unstable in turning?

Did it hop, slide out, wobble, roll on top of debris? Trying to figure out if some of what I'm experiencing is due to the tire or something else.

FWIW, what I experienced with a Kenda 270 in 120/80-18 front was that it had a little tendency to dive into a turn on pavement, meaning that a small turn in (countersteer) would be all that was necessary. I never had anything but excellent traction in dirt. I also traded with a friend with a 244 in 5.10-18 for a while on a smooth gravel road and noticed right away that it was more stable in moderate turns at medium speed (~30). This may have been due to the difference in width.

After 5,000 miles my Kenda, while still fine in the dirt, started to buzz a lot on the pavement, so I replaced it with the Shinko 241, which is very well mannered on pavement. Extremely predictable, smooth, quiet. I don't think it gives up much in ultimate traction to either the Golden Boy or the Kenda, except in mud or very loose dirt. I would have to go back to exactly the same stretch of gravel road to define this, and since it was two years ago I doubt if that would have any validity.

It may well be that whatever you are experiencing is in fact due to other factors. For me, in Idaho, riding mostly rocky, technical, slow trails, or smooth gravel FS roads, the 241 has been great. It was also great last winter in Death Valley on badly wash-boarded gravel. But the previous time I was there I still had the Death Wing......no comparison at all.

After reading all the posts on the deadly trail wing I replaced my 2014 tire w/ the 5.10 244 golden boy. Thankful I had dodged a bullet, I took to the trails, and to be honest, I can't tell a dimes worth of difference! Yes, it falls into a turn slightly. It took a whole mile for me to get use to it. Now, it seems IT ( the 244 ) has gone out of favor and the 241 taking the top spot. If the 241 gives you more confidence, that's what counts, but these front tire threads, although interesting, are so subjective, that it becomes confusing. So IMHO, run what you brung, and take responsablity on where you point it! I don't know any loose gravel road, that will forgive you for going into a turn too hot w/ any of these tires....my .02

Moab is a good place to see what people are using and try out some different tires.
My vote is still for the Pirelli MT43.

And Deepseadan have you seen some of the trails I ride? The only tire I have found that tracks well is the MT43. The Goldenboy was gone after a few rides.

The MT43 is a bit squarer than the SR241 and I doubt you will wear it out all that fast unless you do a lot of road riding.
The stock rear tire is good, but an ATV tire on the back is amazing in sand, mud and snow.
Yesterday I was up to the axles in mud and the duro just kept the bike moving.

If you ride mostly in dirt, I wouldn't worry about it. What I noticed most about the Kenda 270, very similar to the 244, is that at around 5,000 miles it started making more noise on pavement, and eventually the vibration increased to the point that I changed it out for a 241 with still a third of the tread left. Of course the 241 is much quieter and more user friendly on pavement, but I never pushed the Kenda on pavement, so it was purely noise and vibration that made me switch.

I'll have to consider changing tires.....I have not felt anything wrong with the stocker yet. But, I am still riding pretty slow, esp on the dirt. handling on the road has felt fine and fun. I am a long time road rider and quad rider, so 2 wheels on the trails feels dicy at this point regardless of tires! I have been careful, right now all my local trails are wet, muddy and covered in leaves -- really love mud covered with leaves on steep descents! I certainly have not been bored yet :>) nor have I gone down yet -- knocking on wood. Like the cost of tires on this bike vs my Victory.

This is EXACTLY the type of conditions that the stock tire does so poorly in! Try braking hard in those conditions, then put a 241 on and do the exact same thing in the same place. You will not need any more convincing. :D
